SELECTED MAKER

O'callaghan, Angie
Textiles

Angie O'Callaghan first came to Cornwall in 1978. In 2001, having left the teaching profession, Angie was able to give time to her long term interest in art.

She began to explore the use of wools to create textile pictures, her unique work evolving through her love for the variations in colour and texture of the wool itself. She experiments with these different qualities and on occasions enhances her work further, by introducing hand stitched beads, coloured fleece and other silks and threads.

Look out for her trademark of water flowing out of her pictures!

Inspiration for her landscapes and seascapes comes from her love of the open countryside and coastline around Cornwall and Devon.

Her pictures are always framed in tulipwood and glass and Angie completes this process herself, because the threads are easily displaced. She considers this final stage to make a highly significant contribution to the quality of the finished picture.

Example size of pictures. Textile image 12.5 cms square, outer frame of 31 cms square.
She has received several private commissions and is willing to discuss new ideas with clients.
