Edelston, Emma
Glass
Emma Edelston started making mirrors twelve years ago. She completed a foundation course at the West Sussex College of Art and Design in 1976 and moved to Brighton where she combined working in the antiques trade and singing in a band.
She has travelled extensively and has a particular fondness for South East Asia and it's wealth of colours and hand made artefacts. But it was not until she moved to St Ives in the early nineties that she started to create her own designs. Her mirrors are reminiscent of the Art Deco period but with a very contemporary feel. They are all three dimensional which result in a wealth of reflections, they can be as plain or decorative as required. Decoration involves the use of rich coloured stained glass andlor wire work.
There is a standard range of shapes and sizes but within this range the mirrors remain individual by virtue of the decoration. Emma also produces work designed to fit individual specifications. Other products include hanging lights, uplights, tables and pelmets and she is currently working on a range of jewellery.
