SELECTED MAKER

Karensa, Rose
Jewellery

My jewellery is about exploration and discovery using ancient techniques in contemporary design and combining new materials, stones and precious metals in innovative ways.

I studied for my BA(hons) Fine Art/Jewellery at Portsmouth and went on to study for my MA in Silversmithing & Jewellery at Leicester where I was commissioned by Goldsmiths Hall to explore the potential of the ‘hardenable silver alloy’.

I started my career in Fine Art Painting and still find colour is a major influence in my jewellery work today. Walking the moors and the coastal paths of Cornwall I absorb the subtle hues of the sea and landscape which I then translate through my jewellery.

To incorporate colour into my designs I often use enamel, adding vibrancy into semi hidden areas. Niobium is one of the rare metals that I use in combination with precious metals to add contrast with deep blues and greys.

Much of my inspiration comes from the beautiful precious and semi precious stones and pearls I source and around which I design unique pieces of jewellery.

The ‘Celebratory Spoons’ are designed to celebrate the birth of a child or Christening, a wedding or anniversary, or for that extra special gift or occasion. Each spoon is designed to be functional, from babies 1st spoon to egg spoon, salt & pepper spoon to jam or pickle spoon.

I also work to commission, designing exclusive jewellery, including engagement and wedding rings and have also been commissioned to make a silver trophy by Model Engineer Magazine.
