Harrison, Jackie
Textiles
Jackie’s work explores the complexities of Cornwall’s landscape, she trained at West Surrey College of Art and Design, Farnham.
In 1975 she moved to Cornwall with her husband Nic, a potter. In 1981 they established ‘Trelowarren Pottery’ near Helston, where their workshops were open to the public.
Upon leaving Trelowarren in 2005 she moved her workshop to their new Gallery, “Nic Harrison Ceramics” in Meneage Street Helston. Here she continues to produce her colourful rugs and tapestries which explore colour in the landscape.
She works from her own drawings made around the Cornish coastline. Using short lenths of wool she is able to mix the colours very directly onto the warp threads. Using the tapestry technique she is able to develop the image in a way that allows the viewer to interpret the scene through their own imagination. The texture achieved with wool is unique and highly appropriate for the rugged and wild nature of the granite coastline of Cornwall.
The rugs are suitable for the floor, or as a wall hanging. The Seascape Tapestries are framed between two sheets of clear glass, allowing the work to be viewed from either side.
