SELECTED MAKER

Davey, Lynn
Ceramics

Lynn Davey grew up on a small farm on the edge of Bodmin Moor, surrounded by all sorts of animals. Her first introduction to clay came from a short evening course for hand built pottery. Gradually over several years, Lynn has taught herself by trial and error, and obtaining reference books from the Library.

Lynn now works from her small studio on the North Cornish coast, and she specialises in animal sculpture using heavily grogged stoneware clay. Each piece is initially made as a solid form, and then hollowed out and the fine detail added. It is then slowly dried and biscuit fired, then printed and fired to stoneware temperature.

Lynn makes a wide range of animals and birds rare breed pigs, dogs, cats, otters, badgers, puffins, tems, cormorants, her strangest request being an Aardvark!!

All larger pieces are suitable for use in the garden as they are completely frostproof.

Lynn is in the process of producing a new range of dogs and cats for 2007. It is her aim to take a more modernistic approach to her work emphasising the features and characteristics of each individual animal.

Lynn is happy to accept special commissions and is able to work from photographs.
