Other Media

Cornwall has been my home for 40 years, returning perminently in 1970 after working in the professional theatre in London and Bristol. This led me into teaching and specialising in art and drama. I have now retired from teaching in order develop my own work. I think of myself as a creative chameleon as my work, and the media I use, constantly changes, covering the area between fine art and craft.

I live on one of the creeks of the Fal estuary and take much of my inspiration from the constant tidal movements of the rivers and creeks. This has lead to some new work entitled Cornish Estuaries, a series of paintings and collage, which include natural materials and tread. I hope to exhibit some of these in 2008.

The handmade books which I currently exhibit with the Cornwall Craft Association
are made from handmade watercolour paper and each one is covered with handmade Khadi paper from India. They are then decorated with natural materials such as shells and tread etc. A series entitled "Fal Estuary" was made for the exhibition at Trelissick for the Fal Festival.

These books can be used for a variety of occaisions and some are commissioned for weddings or anniversaries. I fill my own with holiday drawings and mementos. I hold small workshops in bookmaking at my
home studio but I am happy to discuss the possibility of a larger workshop in the future.
