Furniture / Wood
I developed interest in furniture/woodwork whilst working unskilled for a local wooden conservatory manufacturer. Wanting to further my woodworking skills a colleague suggested a furniture design/making course at Cornwall College.
After 3 years of intensive training and graduating at Cornwall College I went to work for a local furniture making company for a further 2 years. I moved to Dorset and worked for a further 3 companies each varying in their disciplines, which expanded my knowledge and honed my skills as a furniture maker.
In 2003 I moved back to Cornwall and set up my workshop to design and create contemporary bespoke furniture, trading under the name Journeyman. Furniture is designed and made to commission and I take part in as many exhibitions as time will allow which gives me the freedom to be as creative as I like.
I do not have a particular style but my own tastes shine through on each project undertaken. I like clean lines and simple decoration allowing the wood to express, drawing on the surroundings that the pieces are to be set. Sustainable native hardwoods are the core media employed however veneers, metals, glass and plastics are utilised in assignments.
