Sutcliffe, Malcolm
Glass
Malcolm's glass has a distinctive style and he enjoys making bowls, vases, dishes and plates that have clean, smooth, simple shapes. All the glass is free blown, no moulds are used to shape the glass only wet newspaper, wooden blocks and the traditional glassmakers tools. Since moving to Cornwall in 2001, as well as the figurative work that he is well known for, he has been exploring the watery theme of the sea and the sky in all its moods just using colour, softly blended together. Having his own gallery is allowing him the freedom to explore and experiment more, this is reflected in his website which shows an ever changing range of work.
Malcolm holds open days and demonstration days and also offers glass blowing lessons so people can experience the fun and excitement of glassblowing! Maximum students per session are 2 so the teaching and hands on experience is intensive.
