John Christian, AWCB
John is an artist blacksmith using only pure forging techniques and executing all his hand forged work in the fire and on the anvil. Forging quality work in wrought iron, John creates his own designs influenced by the vibrant and natural Cornish landscapes and seascapes surrounding his home.
John is proud to have been awarded a Diploma of Merit by the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths making him an Associate of the Company. The Diploma is not awarded lightly and John had to prove his blacksmithing skills over several years to be considered. He applies his skills and knowledge to work as diverse as conservation of wrought ironwork and to developing innovative, contemporary sculptures of today. John enjoys collaborating with his wife Tricia, an artist working with kiln formed glass, to create truly unique, combined artistic forms.
Regularly demonstrating his blacksmithing skills in public John brings a much needed awareness of the traditional blacksmithing profession to those who have never seen an artist blacksmith at work.
Keen to share his knowledge John runs blacksmithing courses at the forge at Lower Boquio Farm, embracing all the skills of traditional blacksmithing and contemporary wrought iron.
Working with iron and fire, controlling the exciting dynamics of iron changing form, literally forges an affinity with John and this ancient art.
